HTRC UnCamp 2018: Travel and Accommodations

Location

HTRC UnCamp 2018 will be hosted on the University of California, Berkeley campus. The primary venue will be the newly renovated Moffitt Library (map), with breakout events in nearby campus locations including the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS) and Morrison Library—both located in Doe Library (map)—the campus D-Lab in Barrows Hall (map), and the Academic Innovation Studio (AIS) in Dwinelle Hall (map). All UnCamp events and pre-conferences will be located within a 5-10 minute walk from Moffitt Library.

Travel

Airports

Both San Francisco International (SFO) and Oakland International (OAK) airports serve the Bay Area and provide a reasonable trip to the UC Berkeley campus. You should allow 40 mins to one hour commute time to/from the airports, depending on time of day and traffic.

Getting to/from the airports:

  • BART: BART trains are accessible from both the Oakland International Airport and the San Francisco International Airport.

  • Airport Shuttles: Shuttles are available from the Oakland International Airport and the San Francisco International Airport. Reservations are required. For information, costs, and reservations, contact the companies below:

  • App-based ride services: Both Oakland International Airport and the San Francisco International Airport are served by several App-Based Ride Services such as Lyft or Uber. Pick up locations for Ride Services are specific to each airport; At OAK, these services can pick up riders from the commercial curb (2nd island) across the terminal entrance, while at SFO pick-ups will occur on the Departure level.   • Taxis: Taxis are available at both OAK and SFO as well, on standby or by phone. One-way from OAK to campus is generally $40-50, while SFO to campus can run $80-100+.

Berkeley Area Public Transit

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a great way to travel to UC Berkeley. The Downtown Berkeley stop is one block from the west side of campus.

Parking

Driving to campus is not generally recommended, as parking is extremely limited to visitors on and near campus. Check UC Berkeley Visitor Parking for more information on available pay parking.

Westbound from Highway 24

  1. Exit at Berkeley / Tunnel Road

  2. Continue west on Tunnel Road, which becomes Ashby Avenue

  3. Turn right onto Telegraph Avenue to Bancroft Way

  4. This is the southside of UC Berkeley

Westbound from High​way 13

  1. Continue west on Hwy 13, which becomes Tunnel Road at the first stoplight

  2. Follow directions 2-4 for "Westbound from Highway 24"

Eastbound from Highway 80

  1. Exit at University Avenue

  2. Continue east approximately 2 miles to Oxford Street

  3. This is the westside of UC Berkeley

Eastbound from Highway 580

  1. Exit to Highway 24 east, Walnut Creek/Berkeley

  2. Take first exit, 51st Street & Martin Luther King Jr. Way

  3. Turn right and proceed east on 51st Street for two blocks

  4. Turn left onto Telegraph Avenue to Bancroft Way

  5. This is the southside of UC Berkeley

Eastbound from Highway 24

  1. Exit at 51st Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way

  2. Follow directions 3-5 for "Eastbound from Highway 580"

Faculty Club

HTRC UnCamp attendees, as part of the extended University of California campus community, are welcome to book rooms at the Faculty Club. Neither Faculty Club membership nor proof of attendance at the UnCamp is required.
