When you search in a book, your search terms are now highlighted in page images.

Search in a Book Highlighting

You can search in most books in the HathiTrust collection. Previously, your search terms were only highlighted in the search results page and the Plain-Text view mode (which displays the OCRed text associated with a page).

Now, you can also find your search terms highlighted on the page images in Scroll mode, Flip Page mode, and Page by Page mode. If you have multiple search terms or use Boolean operators between search terms, your terms will be highlighted in different colors.

“Schemes of migration and colonization arose among them; but these they refused to entertain , and they eventually turned to the Abolition movement as a final refuge. Here, led by Remond, Nell, Wells-Brown, and Douglass, a new period of self-assertion and self-development dawned. To be sure, ultimate freedom…” The word Abolition is highlighted in yellow, Remond is highlighted in green, and Douglass is highlighted in orange.

Book: The Souls of Black Folk: Essays and Sketches, by W.E. B. Du Bois. Contributed by Penn State University.

Notes: This feature may not work for books that do not have sufficient data for us to provide accurate highlighting. Search term highlighting also will not work if you rotate the page.
