In response to the COVID-19 global crisis and its impact on the academic library community, HathiTrust has modified the 2020 annual member meeting format from its traditional in-person event to a virtual event.
HathiTrust and Interdependence: 2020 Member Meeting & HathiTrust Community Week
HathiTrust was founded by academic libraries recognizing that their greatest strength was in collaboration, a type of interdependence that still exists today. Prevalent in more recent years is the influx of libraries looking beyond their campus to achieve more. Library leaders are now considering a shift in thinking and behaviors that tend towards a type of dependence on each other. HathiTrust currently facilitates interdependence across our members by building co-operative services based on the collective collection.
Our focus for the meeting is to establish a shared understanding of library interdependence as it manifests in existing HathiTrust programming and collections and in possible future work together. We’ll spend time hearing from members regarding the benefits and challenges to these types of relationships in order to begin to identify ways libraries and HathiTrust can work to achieve more together.
HathiTrust and attendees will examine how library leaders can help move from individual advocacy to collective action for greater benefit; utilize services and programs across HathiTrust to address ways we can enhance our interdependence; and examine through presentations and discussions what meaningful interdependence across our membership already exists and challenges encountered.
Virtual 2020 Member Meeting & HathiTrust Community Week
There is no registration fee for attendance. Attendees of all HathiTrust event agree to adhere to the HathiTrust Code of Conduct.

Who Should Attend?
2020 Member Meeting: We strongly encourage attendance from the member representative, director, or dean of HathiTrust members, but their appointed delegates may attend. Although the member meeting may not feature voting, it is important that attendees either be the voting representative or have the authority delegated to them. This session is also open to any interested party affiliated with a member library.
HathiTrust Community Week: These sessions are open to any interested party affiliated with a member library.

2020 HathiTrust Community Week
The week of October 26, HathiTrust will host virtual sessions that explore various aspects of interdependence in HathiTrust. These sessions will be geared towards audiences that may have never attended a member meeting, but that have an interest in or responsibility for HathiTrust at their own institutions. Sessions will include member presentations and panel discussions, and cover topics such as instruction, shared print, collections, accessibility, and building community during times of crisis.
