Member Meeting November 2
The 2017 HathiTrust Member Meeting will be held at the Loews Chicago O’Hare Hotel on November 2. A record 97 representatives from 81 institutions are registered to attend. This year’s meeting will be focused on the future. We’ll spend the day discussing our vision, our goals, and how we’ll accomplish them. 2018 Budget and Fees Approval Vote Now Open
HathiTrust Member Representatives received ballots via email to approve the 2018 HathiTrust Budget and Fees. The vote will close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, November 15. If you are a designated member representative and you have not received the ballot for your institution, please contact Melissa Stewart (mmstewa@hathitrust.org).
Collections Committee “Duplicates” Report

The HathiTrust Collections Committee (HCC) has recently published HathiTrust Monographic Duplication and Uniqueness: 2017 Report and Recommendations. The report reaffirms the conclusions in a similar review conducted in 2012, but also extends the understanding of the types of duplication and relative uniqueness in the corpus through offering a taxonomy of “duplicates.” Using the taxonomy, the measure of the potential value of duplication in the corpus (particularly to scholars) may be considered in a more discerning and standardized way. In its Response, the Program Steering Committee (PSC) commends the work of the HCC, chaired by Nicholas Wolf, and offers considerations for next steps.
Research Center Text Mining Workshop Series for Librarians
Are you a librarian who is interested in learning more about digital humanities methods and text mining?
The IMLS-funded project "Digging Deeper, Reaching Further: Libraries Empowering Users to Mine the HathiTrust Digital Library Resources" (DDRF) is holding a series of 1-day workshops across the U.S. from fall 2017 through summer 2018 that introduce library and information professionals to text mining and related digital scholarship methods, with a focus on the tools and data from the HathiTrust Research Center. The aims of the DDRF workshops are to empower librarians to become more conversant in digital scholarship and engage with digital projects at their institutions.
Upcoming workshops this fall will be held in Atlanta and Chapel Hill, with more to come in the spring, including in Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, New Orleans, D.C., and more. All are encouraged to attend, and no experience is necessary!

UpdatesCopyright Review Program update
Forty (40) of the expected 49 Retention Libraries have signed the Shared Print Program Agreement so far. Retention commitments from these 49 libraries will total 16.4 million volumes representing 4.8 million distinct titles (OCLC numbers). Planning has begun for Phase 2, including system functions to make use of existing shared print data and collection analysis to prioritize and propose additional holdings.
