Welcoming New Members to HathiTrust

We are pleased to announce that Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Northern Colorado have joined the HathiTrust member community. See the full membership list on our website.

Membership Elects a New Board Member & Passes 2023 Budget

Gohar Ashoughian, University Librarian and Archivist from Wilfrid Laurier University (HathiTrust member since 2020), is the newest representative on the HathiTrust Board of Governors. She will begin her term in January 2023. Read more about Gohar in the press release. During the latest election cycle, Member Representatives also voted to approve the 2023 HathiTrust Annual budget. You can learn more about the 2023 budget in this video from Executive Director, Mike Furlough, and in the complete 2023 budget documentation.

HathiTrust is Hiring: Associate Director

HathiTrust is seeking an Associate Director to assume a key leadership role at a critical moment in our history as HathiTrust reaffirms its vision and commitment to long-term, durable, and equitable access to scholarship in a turbulent world. The Associate Director will coordinate HathiTrust’s services and programs, integrate and focus work of HathiTrust functional teams, working groups, and service providers, oversee evaluation and assessment, and monitor progress on goals and objectives. As a major contributor to HathiTrust’s ongoing success, the Associate Director will also participate in development and implementation of the next strategic plan. We welcome your application and recommendations of exceptional candidates.

HathiTrust has retained Koya Partners for this search. For more details, see the complete posting on our website

HathiTrust Research Center: Fall Workshops & Bookworm Update

Fall Workshops

Registration is now open for fall 2022 virtual HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) workshops. This term we are offering two of our popular introductory workshops and an introductory level workshop on the HTRC Extracted Features dataset. You do not need to be affiliated with a HathiTrust member institution to attend. Contact htrc-help@hathitrust.org with any questions.

Workshop 1: Introduction to HathiTrust and HTRC
Thursday, November 3, 2022
1:00 - 3:00 pm ET / 12:00 - 2:00 pm CT

In this session, we will explore the basics of HathiTrust as a data source and how to utilize HTRC as a resource for text and data mining. The session will be helpful for those who want a general overview, or who want a solid foundation for the other workshops in the series.

Workshop 2:  HTRC Extracted Features
Thursday, November 10
2:00 - 4:00 pm ET / 1:00 - 3:00 pm CT

This session will introduce the Extracted Features data model. The dataset can be used for text analysis projects where access to the words and word-counts in a volume are expected by the algorithm, such as topic modeling or certain kinds of machine learning projects. No experience is required--your level of participation is up to you! However, familiarity with Python is helpful.

BookWorm Update

You can now explore trends in 2.7 trillion words — or 17+ million items — in the HathiTrust collection using HathiTrust+Bookworm. The HTRC Research Support Services team recently updated the HathiTrust+Bookworm tool to make use of new fields in the Extracted Features 2.0 dataset and to increase the corpus size. Bookworm enables scholars at all skill-levels to discover new textual use patterns across the entire corpus, including in-copyright and public domain volumes.
