Voting Underway for 2023 Budget & New Board Member
Voting since opened for HathiTrust Member Representatives to select the new board member and also to approve the 2023 budget. The open board seat will replace Elaine Westbrooks, Cornell University (HathiTrust member since 2010), whose term ends in December. The newly elected member will serve a three-year term beginning January 1, 2023.

HathiTrust Visionary Paul Courant Receives 2022 Paul Evan Peters Award
The Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and EDUCAUSE has recognized one of HathiTrust’s original founders, Paul Courant, with the 2022 Paul Evan Peters Award. The award recognizes notable, lasting achievements in the creation and innovative use of network-based information resources and services that advance scholarship and intellectual productivity.
While serving as University of Michigan Provost, Courant championed Michigan’s partnership with Google to digitize its library collection, and helped secure an agreement to retain digital copies for preservation and scholarly uses. Later, as University Librarian, Paul helped to found HathiTrust, building the necessary university partnerships to launch its work. “There’s no way Google Books would have had the impact that it did, or that HathiTrust would have succeeded without Paul. He had an incredibly powerful and influential vision for the work that libraries could do together,” said HathiTrust Executive Director, Mike Furlough. Read the complete CNI press release.
Registration Now Open: 2022 HathiTrust Member Meeting
Registration is now open for the virtual 2022 Member Meeting, “Constructing Shared Culture: Building Vision, Values, and Strategies for the Future,” slated for Thursday, October 27. Many have already received a registration request via email, to which we request a response by October 15. The meeting will again be open to anyone affiliated with a member library. We encourage you to pass along the meeting and registration information to your teams and colleagues. This year’s planning committee developed a member-centered agenda and offers several opportunities to reflect on organizational goals and on topics of interest with colleagues in member-led sessions. What you share on this day will be part of the foundation for our strategic conversations in the coming year.

Member Print Holdings Submissions
After a pause for process improvements and to support services during the pandemic, HathiTrust will soon resume a formal process for updating print holdings. Print holdings information provides overlap analysis that helps determine member fees and supports lawful uses of materials, such as for the Emergency Temporary Access Service.
The submission process is optional this year. Additional information for print holdings contacts at member libraries will be sent in the coming weeks. We encourage you to submit holdings if any of the following criteria apply to you:
You have not submitted holdings since 2018 or before.
Your institution migrated to a new ILS after your last submission.
You’ve done significant catalog cleanup or OCLC reclamation since your last submission.
You want to prepare for any possible future need for the Emergency Temporary Access Service.
For this round, we will accept and process updated print holdings files through December 15, 2022. Thanks to a series of system upgrades implemented last year, we can and do process holdings year-round and you can submit holdings at any time. We’re setting aside this specific window so we have dedicated time for handling large numbers of files.
HathiTrust’s Support Email Address is Changing!
As part of a continuing effort to improve the tools we use to support you and your community, HathiTrust is introducing a new email support address to replace the existing one. Beginning October 17, users requesting support via email will need to use the new email address: support@hathitrust.org. We hope this email address is easier for your community to remember when they need help. Users continue to have the option to submit a ticket by clicking on the Feedback link from the website and completing the short form.
What You Need To Do
Update any of your internal documentation with the new email address by this date.
Alert your reference, liaison, and other user services library staff of this change.
Update your email Contacts, if needed. Members who regularly submit files or requests may need to update auto-fill functions in their email.
On October 17, begin using support@hathitrust.org for all the same issues or requests submitted using the former email address.
To ease the transition, there will be a brief period of time when both addresses will be in use, with the former email address (feedback@issues.hathitrust.org) re-directing to the new one. We appreciate your support of this change and your help in sharing this change with your community.
